Electrochemically-mediated valorization of whey highlighted by UIUC News!

Congrats to Nayeong for a recently published paper on exploring redox-mediated electrodialysis for the recovery of proteins from whey waste, and simultaneous desalination!

The work was recently published in Chemical Engineering Journal, and demonstrates the capability of redox-flow based technologies for simultaneous protein recovery and salt removal. The electrochemical system shows remarkable cyclability, with >70% lower energy consumption than conventional desalination. The work was carried out in collaboration with Prof. Choonsoo Kim (Kongju University), and has been highlighted by the UIUC News Bureau in “Less salt, more protein”!
