Controlling bicontinuous polyelectrolyte complexation for membrane selectivity in Advanced Functional Materials!

Congrats to Wangsuk for his recently published paper on the synthesis of bicontinuous polyelectrolyte complex (PEC)-layered nanofiltration membranes that enable energy-efficient volatile fatty acids (VFA) separation.

This work was recently published in Advanced Functional Materials and selected as the inside front cover. The study presents the design of ion-exchange membranes with precise nanostructures which are then integrated into a redox-electrodialysis platform for continuous VFA recovery. The findings advance the understanding of interfacial complexation-induced phase separation of polyelectrolytes and the development of next-generation nanostructured membranes for multicomponent separations. The research was carried out in collaboration with Prof. Roderick I. Mackie and Dr. Hyewon Kim.
